Stronger Together

The tourism industry employs more than 54% of women in their workforce, but a large section of the employed women are restricted to menial, routine and non-leading positions. Among other factors contributing to this challenge, insufficient education is a critical cause.

Among Asian countries, India has the lowest female literacy rate, with more than 55% of young girls dropping out of the education system due to financial reasons. Statistics from global bodies like UNICEF demonstrate that only 9% of girls in India receive higher education.

This complex situation of lower attention to female education and the financial crisis of families in India was magnified during the pandemic due to the loss of lives and livelihoods. Unfortunately, there were cases where young girls lost their families and were left with no support system.

At World Women Tourism, we are committed to supporting women in their advancement, and we decided to collaborate with a woman-led organisation - Dezine Careers - and gift their calendars to our partners in India. All the proceeds from these calendars will be donated to Project Arambha, a women-led social initiative helping facilitate education for young girls who lost their parents to Covid.

World Women Tourism believes that women have the power to bring a change in the world if they come together and join their efforts together. By taking this initiative with Dezine Careers, World Women Tourism is taking a step towards a safer future of the girls.
